I am beyond sad. Josh was one of my favorite students. After a rocky start the first day of my student teaching, Josh saw that I would meet him where he was and he became my champion. He would stick his head into my classroom once in a while the rest of the term and say "I hope you are behaving" to the students! "or you will have to answer to me". Everyone laughed. He always brightened my day with his huge smile. Josh was very intelligent, but had difficulty putting it on paper. So, I let him do essays verbally. The first time, I was so delighted to see that he could tell me everything about a character; and, explain why he thought the character was important to the plot of "The Grapes of Wrath", including how he related to the man personally. Josh was so astounded that he received an A for this. He deserved it! Not only did he meet all the requirements of the essay, but he did it very thoughtfully. He danced back to his seat in the classroom. I will never forget Josh! He was one of the highlights of my time at Baker.. My deepest sympathy to Josh's family. Please know that although Josh's life was short, he made a big difference in the lives of others.
