Obituary of Barbara Jean Glath

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Jean Glath died June 18, 2021, after a battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in Syracuse, NY on April 28, 1945, to Kathleen Nellis Glath and Albert A Glath. Her family lived with her maternal grandfather in Parish, NY until she was 5 1/2 years old. The family then moved to N. Syracuse where she grew up.

She graduated from N. Syracuse High School, Onondaga County College, and Syracuse University where she earned AAS, BA, and MS degrees. Barb considered herself a lifelong learner and took post-graduate courses toward a CAS degree, and then BOCES and OASIS courses.

She also loved to be outdoors and always sought adventures and new experiences. She hiked and camped in the Adirondacks, skied, biked, played tennis (TACNY), softball, and golf. She loved gardening and doing home projects. Her greatest love was traveling to new places and meeting new people and learning about their cultures. She visited five of the six continents and 46 different countries along with 33 states and seven Canadian provinces.

Barb worked as a teacher, caseworker, and probation officer for Onondaga County, NYS employment counselor, and high school guidance counselor at FM High School and Clinton Central Schools. Barb had different groups of friends, some lifelong. She cherished all of them and regarded some as family members. They were dependable and irreplaceable.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary. She leaves behind a nephew, Corey Glath, and nieces, Kelly (Brian) Wilson and Jamie (Eric) Williams, several cousins, and her wonderful corgi, Maggie Marie.

A private celebration of Barb's life will be held at a future date.

Donations in Barb's memory can be made to Francis House.
