Obituary of Robert William Pacheck

Robert W. Pacheck was born on April 3, 1922 to Leo and Victoria Pacheck of Syracuse. He graduated from North High School in 1940. This is where he met his wife of 75 years, Barbara. He started working at 19 at Syracuse China at the Fayette Street plant. In 1942 he was drafted into the Army. While in the Army he took special training in anti-aircraft, weapons and Ranger training. In 1944 he was deployed to England. Little did he know, but on June 6th he and thousands of other soldiers were sent across the English Channel to land in Normandy, France. He was in the 2nd wave that crashed the beaches and headed into the interior of France. On his 3rd time through St. Lo, he was shot 4 times from behind by a German aircraft. For this, he received the Purple Heart. After multiple surgeries, he was discharged from service and returned to civilian life. One month later he married Barbara the love of his life. He returned to work at Syracuse China. Bob and Barbara had 4 children; Robert Jr. (deceased), Thomas (deceased), James and Charles. Along the way Bob was involved with The Boy Scouts, Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department (as both a firefighter and a Commissioner). He read Water Meters for the water district. He became a building inspector for the Town of Lysander after he retired from Syracuse China in 1984 with 43 years. Then he became a Codes Enforcement Officer. In 1998 he retired from the Town and became a School Board Member. Bob had a very busy life of service to his country and community. One of the best days of Bob's life is when he got to go with many other veterans on the Honor Flight, to Washington D.C. to visit many of the monuments to war heroes like himself. He was asked to participate in the channel 9 Bridge Street Special Program for the 75th Anniversary of DDAY. Robert is predeceased by his brother Edward, sister Dolores. Bob was survived by his wife; Barbara, sister Elizabeth Fielding, sons; James and Charles, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He touched the hearts of everyone that met him. He was a great man. He will be deeply missed. Rest ln Peace Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm, Tuesday December 29, at Falardeau Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19, Funeral services will be private for the family with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery
