My passion & love for smocking & heirloom sewing began with meeting Betty at her little shop in the country. As a young mother I would venture off to the house kids in tow. She always welcomed us with open arms!! It was there that I felt I could sew anything & I did! Betty so patiently taught me to smock beautiful dresses for my girls. She was a meticulous sewer & shared her love of sewing with me. When I would feel cranky my hubby would tell me to “go see Betty”. And I did just that. Because of Betty I won many state fair awards. I was so sad when she decided to close her shop. I wish she could know the impact she has left on my life. I now sew for my grands with another due in spring. I have many of her things that she gave to me to sew. I still have every shop newsletter which she always wrote something special to me!I think of her every time I sew. She is truly a blessing to me. What a remarkable lady. I been with my daughter in Texas helping with children & I am here for awhile & it was by surprise that I saw the paper. Please know that I am saddened. Because of her life she gave me mine!! My hands play her song of smocking & sewing for this I am grateful!

We (Oliver and I) were very sad to learn if Betty’s passing. We knew her and Jack for many years as neighbors and having potato farming in common. Betty was a gracious, gentle soul. She was a lady in the truest sense of the word. The world is a little harsher place without her. Thoughts and prayers to her family. We hope your memories will give you comfort in the days ahead.
