Obituary of Peter C Frey

On Thursday, November 5th Peter Frey of Baldwinsville, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away with his family by his side at the age of 79.

Peter and his loving wife Christel were both born in Vienna, Austria, and shared a tremendous life together for over 60 years. He was educated in Austria, England, and France and thereafter spent time in Australia and Italy expanding the family business. Peter was a seeker of adventure and an entrepreneur, and in 1964 at the age of 23, immigrated to the United States with his wife Christel and began an import company in New York City. He lived with his family in New Jersey, and a decade later settled in Syracuse where he founded and was President of Syracuse Casing Co. Over the years, the company became a family run business which included his wife Christel, eldest son Peter and decades-long employees, he considered family.

Peter had a passion for the "occasional" card game and horse racing. He shared that love with his family over the years, especially with his wife Christel, who was always by his side until the final race of the night. Peter was competitive and sports were a big part of his life. Growing up in Austria, he loved to ski in the Alps with his four brothers and was a talented soccer player. Later in life, he became an avid golfer and tennis player and was a member at Tuscarora Golf Club and Pine Grove Country Club.

Peter's greatest joy was being surrounded by his family at home, just "hanging out" together. The presence of his wife, children, and grandchildren around him made him smile, and for his grandchildren, no sacrifice was too great, including sharing his recliner to watch "Sponge Bob Square Pants" for hours on end. Among his family and friends, Peter's kindness, compassion, humor, and generosity was legendary - his larger than life presence attracted most everyone. For his children, he was a rock, supporting and empowering them to pursue their life's path. Their success is a tribute to him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Christel; children Catherine, Peter, James, and Michael; grandchildren Hannah, Caroline, Ethan, Evelyn, Peter Henry and Jacob. As well as his brothers in Austria, Richard, Rudi, Paul, and Eric.

It was a life well lived, and as he liked to quote "I did it my way!".

Due to COVID-19 the family will not be holding calling hours or a funeral service. A celebration of Peter's life may take place in the spring.
