Evelyn was a precious lady. She played the organ at my wedding in 1986, the first of many, many times Evelyn and I would cross paths. I liked her immediately. It was a HOT late August afternoon when we met in the loft of the church, but she had all the time in the world for me. Gracious, always gracious. Having worked in the Foundation at Syracuse Home for over 25 years, I have had the privilege of knowing many loving, long married couples. Bill was one of the most devoted spouses I have seen. My heart-felt sympathies to Evelyn's family. "She was one of the rare ones, so effortlessly herself and the world loved her." - Atticus Finch

I was a teacher and department chair when Evelyn was on the Board. She was my favorite board member. On one occasion the district and teacher's union were at loggerheads over a contract and we working to rule - no assignments outside the school day. The Honor Society induction occurred and many of my students were being inducted. I was not going to miss it, so I sort of "snuck" into the auditorium and sat in the back - next to Evelyn. We just looked at each other and laughed - quietly, of course... Evelyn was a wonderful person - loving and caring. Having one of her sons class, I know she was a great mom as well. May God bless and keep her.

My son, Cole, took piano lessons with Evelyn when he was 10. I enjoyed listening to them work together and was amazed at her patience and her ability to convey information that captured his complete, undivided attention. She was truly a remarkable woman.

I was a student of Mrs Mercer in 8th grade at Baker. Not a musical sort, I nonetheless enjoyed that class because of the way she taught the class. Bill and I have become friends over the years and send my condolences to him and the family at the loss of a terrific lady. RIP Evelyn
