Obituary of Sara B. Schofield

Please share a memory of Sara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Shakespeare: "Though she be but little, she is fierce". Sara B. Schofield, 89, known as Sally, went home to the Lord May 2, 2020. Born in Ware, MA to Sara T. and John L. Boyle, she grew up in Clinton, MA and resided in Rome, NY for most of her adult life before moving to Baldwinsville in 2011. She lamented often about being an only child and her desire for a large family. She accomplished that dream and raised 6 children. Sally graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in home economics. Her faith was the guide for her life. Having lost her beloved father at age 11, she looked forward to the day she would see him again in Heaven. As an Air Force wife, she enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed Munich, Germany. She always wished she'd made it west of the Mississippi. She looked at each new place as an opportunity to meet new people. She embraced life in Rome and missed the people and ease of life there. She taught at the School for the Deaf and in other Rome schools in different roles. Sally taught English as a second language for a short time. Sewing was her "go to" activity as well as reading historical books. She lovingly knit many sweaters for her grandchildren, researched family history, and made quilt squares for every state. Sally was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Donna Kinn, and granddaughter, Colleen. She is survived by her daughter, Mary and Scott Thayer of Baldwinsville, son, John and Janet of Chippewa, PA, daughter, Maria and Anthony DeCotis of Nashua, NH, sons, Peter and Mark, and son-in-law, Jerry Kinn; grandchildren, Megan (Brett), Jillian (Ethan), Cassandra (Adrian), Malcolm (Hannah), Zachary (Hannah), Kevin, Christopher, Maureen, Kathleen, Ryan, Tyler, Ellen; and 8 great-grandchildren. Sally had a big heart and always wanted to help others. She liked to send notes with a tea bag or a simple flower when someone was having a difficult time. Sally will be missed. We hope she is having an ice cream sundae with her dad in Heaven. Due to present circumstances, services are private, with a burial in Massachusetts at a future time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
