Robert Hickok Johnson, Jr., 87, of McHarrie Towne, in Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on Friday, April 17 at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse, NY on July 24, 1932, the son of Robert Hickok and Gertrude Cook Johnson. Bob was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Bolles in Bellows Falls, Vermont on August 28, 1954.
Bob was a life time resident of Baldwinsville. He graduated from Baldwinsville Academy where he was active in drama and in the band and with the "Baldwinaires". He graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy in 1954 as a Registered Pharmacist. He was a member of Kappi Psi Fraternity. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army attached to a M.A.S.H. unit.
In 1960, Mr. Johnson bought and operated the Baldwinsville Drug Company, the Rexall Drug Store in "downtown'' Baldwinsville. Ten years later he then became supervising pharmacist for the Rite Aid in Baldwinsville. He worked for Rite Aid for 25 years until he retired. As the local pharmacist, he was known for his sincere manner, his helpfulness, and his smile.
Bob was an active, lifetime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Baldwinsville. Because of his love of woodworking, he crafted an aumbry for the sanctuary of Grace Church and crafted an oak urn for interments in the Memorial Garden at the church.
Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed his hobbies of traveling, cooking, wood working, and spending summers at the "Stunted Cedar", the family camp at Averill, Vermont. In 2010 Bob and Betty moved to McHarrie Towne, a retirement community in Baldwinsville.
Surviving are his wife Betty of Baldwinsville; three sons: Robert III (Teresa) of Durham, NC, Bruce (Susan Manikus) of Richmond, VA; Eric of Balston Spa NY; three grandchildren, Robert IV Johnson; Thomas and Victoria Johnson: brother Paul H. (Nancy) Johnson of Snohomish, WA; brother-in-law Arthur (Jean) Bolles of Apollo Beach, FL; Sister-in-law Louise Bolles of Wellesley, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his parents, his granddaughter Melissa Mae Johnson, and brother-in-law, Thomas V. Bolles.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Grace Episcopal Church in Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Baldwinsville or to McHarrie Life, 7740 Meigs Road, Baldwinsville N.Y. 13027
