Obituary of Richard S. Nostrant

Richard Steele Nostrant was born in Baldwinsville, New York on September 30, 1926 to parents Leslie and Grace (Steele), the youngest of three sons. He spent his entire life in New York State and died on January 25, 2020 at the age of 93 in the Baldwinsville home that his parents acquired while he was in college. After graduation from Baldwinsville Academy, Richard enlisted in the US Army Air Force and was honorably discharged. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from SUNY Cortland and taught high school science in the Richfield Springs, Camden, and New Berlin school districts, becoming school superintendent at New Berlin Central School and later at Cohocton Central School. Upon retirement he returned to his native Baldwinsville. From his first marriage, his children Sally, James, and Susan were born. After retiring in Baldwinsville he acquired additional family members when he married Edna (Eddie) Halliday. Richard and Eddie spent 35 happy years together in the home he purchased from his mother's estate, enjoying many laughter-filled times with friends and family. After Eddie's death in 2017, he continued his remaining years at home supported by dedicated family, wonderful neighbors, and exceptional and loving caregivers. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Eddie and his brothers Robert Nostrant and John Nostrant. He is survived by his children Sally Westfall (Larry), James Nostrant (Sally) and Susan Csizsmar (Ernie), as well as stepchildren David Halliday (Kathy), Claudia DeLand, James Halliday (Amy), sister-in-law Phyllis Nostrant, and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Calling hours are 4-7 pm Friday, January 31 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville. Services are 10 am Saturday, February 1 at the Funeral Home followed by a burial alongside wife Eddie in Riverview Cemetery.
