Kathie and family,
John and I are so sorry to hear of John's passing. We were in NC for the holidays and must have missed this sad news. Both of us knew John separately and both of us thought so much of him. He was a wonderful man with a great spirit - and will be missed by all he touched. Please accept our sincere sympathy!

Kathie and Family:
As I look at many years that have past....I always remember playing tag football at John's house (back in the 60's ) with the very large front yard. If it was the tackle type football, I would have been crushed :-) . So much fun. Over the years, I've always enjoyed talking to, John, one great guy! He always had a smile on his face and ALWAYS said, " How are you doing, Dave."
That was John!
My sincere sympathy for you and your families loss.
My prayers, now and always,
Dave & Sue

Our memories of John goes back further than most posts. John and my husband were from the "Brown Track" in B'ville growing up. They hung around as young men most likely getting into trouble but also in Boy Scouts and on the swim team together. They graduated the same year and dated their future wives (Kathie and Bonnie) from the Class of 66. After going our separate ways after school and marriage, our paths would cross at every 10 year reunion of both 65 and 66. Although we were not involved much in John's day to day life we both consider John and Kathie important and valuable parts of our past. At every reunion I always remember John's smile and hug hello - looking at me with the same question on his mind - has it really been another 10 years. From all I can see John was a wonderful husband and father and he was also a great part of our past that will not be forgotten. A small note to Kathie - you will always be John & Casey to me no matter how many years pass.

I first met John at Grace Episcopal Church and a nicer human being would be difficult to find unless it was his wife Kathie. I encountered him many times over the years in one function or another at the church or when he was a Bville cop. Worked with him or Kathie on functions at the church as well. Always full of good humor and very kind to my special son, he just radiated warmth. He was a good man and the world is diminished by his loss. My heartfelt condolences to Kathie and his children. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

Kathy,
We are sorry to read about John. It has been years since we have seen you guys but we remember the times we spent together. The years I worked with John at Carrier were some of the best. We understand what you are going thru. We lost our son earlier this year. Once again our sincere condolences.

To Kathie and the Hayes family our deepest condolences to all of you. We all cherish the memories we all had at camp. The campfires, picnics and parties will always be with us. John was the best and he was always happy and polite. There are just so many memories to share as we think of John. We consider you all part of a distance family as we all grew older. With sad hearts we say so long to John. RIP dear friend.
P.S. John say hi to everyone in heaven. They will greet you with open arms and enjoy the campfire.

I first knew John in high school where he was a terrific athlete — soccer, swimming, lacrosse — and a better guy. Always a smile. Over the years, we’d run into each other — both a little heftier tan in school days — but he never lost that smile and the ability to laugh. My heartfelt condolences to Kathie and the family. John will be sorely missed in this world that needs more positive people like John. RIP, John

My parents lived in the “little house” in front of john’s parent’s house. My mother remained friends with john’s mother for many years. When we moved to our house , y mother would bring me over to the Hayes house and I would swing on the rope swing in the big maple tree. John was like a big brother. I am sure all will miss his great smile and sense of mischief. Rest In Peace my old friend.
