Mary Miller Smith, 99, died peacefully, November 28, at St. Luke's Health Services in Oswego after a short illness. She was born in Oswego, NY, the daughter of the late Louis H. and Cora (Kittel) Miller. Prior to moving to Springside at Seneca Hill in 2005, she lived in Baldwinsville since 1950. Mary was a graduate of State University of Oswego and Syracuse University. She taught school for 37 years in various schools in NY State, including District 14 Granby, Averill Park Central and Baldwinsville Central. Thereafter teaching 22 years at State University of Oswego where she retired as Associate Professor of Education in 1977. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Phi Mu, NY Retired Teachers, Oswego Alumni Association, and attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Baldwinsville. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Reynold "Bill" W. Smith, and one brother, Louis Miller. Mary is survived by her nephew, John L. Miller of Auckland, New Zealand; close friends, Susan and Ted Nalle; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 10 AM, Tuesday, December 10 at Riverside Cemetery, 4024 County Rt. 57, Oswego and at 11:30 AM Tuesday, December 10 at Riverview Cemetery, Tappan St, Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
